What hand do you wear your wedding ring on? In the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia, the wedding ring goes on the left hand, fourth finger (the "ring finger").

The tradition comes from the old Roman idea of the vena amoris, a "vein of love" thought to run from that finger to the heart.

But it varies:

• Right hand: common in Germany, Norway, Russia, Poland, India and parts of Spain
• Many people wear the wedding band closest to the heart, with the engagement ring on top
